“Finding the TRUTHS About Birth”

The GO TO Conference of 2016

  • Date: October 14 – 16, 2016
  • Pre-Conference with Nils Bergman, MD October 13, 2016
  • Location: Hotel ML in Mount Laurel, NJ (near Philadelphia)

We live in a time of change, finding a balance between natural, physiologic birth, and the use of technology, to ensure healthy babies and mothers. In this time of change, what are the truths about birth that we can hold onto as guides to preserve birth as an instinctive process?  We are discovering more about primal health and how experiences a baby has in the primal period have an impact on adulthood.  We are learning more about the purpose of the microbiome, how stress affects the growth of a fetus, and how the practice of human values can increase confidence, decrease fear, and empower and transform pregnant women and their families.

Come and hear Nils Bergman, MD speak on the science behind mother/baby skin- to-skin contact in our full day preconference workshop.  Come and hear a line-up of amazing speakers who will focus on finding the truths about birth.  Be inspired by keynote speakers Joel Evans MD, Michel Odent MD, Lori Feldman-Winter MD, PhD, Jennifer Margulis, Ina May Gaskin, Carol Sakala, Henci Goer, Lysa Parker and Barbara Nicholson, along with other workshop presenters.

Come and bring your family for fun in the CoCo Key water resort and game room connected to the hotel, and for a magic show in the evening.  Eat popcorn with Ina May while watching The Birth Story with her.  Be one of the first to view the new film INUTERO.  Come enjoy the autumn summer of New Jersey with trees transforming into red and gold leaves.  Connect with other birth workers and attend inspiring workshops in small group atmospheres.  Find the truths in birth that can move us all toward more positive and safe birth experiences so that birth can be the peak experience in life it was always meant to be. And then make this a vacation and enjoy the sights and sounds of Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love and site of independence for America!

This is a conference for everyone because birth has significant effects on all society.  Whether you are a midwife, childbirth educator, doula, doctor, psychologist, physical or occupational therapist, nurse, dietitian, administrator, social worker, researcher, health advocate or birthing parent, this is a conference for you.

Breastfeeding is Important

Breastfeeding and human milk are the normative standards for infant feeding and nutrition. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months, followed by continued breastfeeding as complementary foods are introduced, with continuation of breastfeeding for 1 year or longer as mutually desired by mother and infant.

Medications and Breastfeeding

Many breastfeeding women are wrongly advised to stop taking necessary medications or to discontinue nursing because of potential harmful effects on their infants. There are few medications that are “not safe” when breastfeeding. Ask your local lactation consultant then consult with your healthcare provider.
